“I had the privilege of working with Vivien as part of an international, multi-stakeholder group, shaping UK policy on conflict minerals at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Vivien made a bold impact in her advocacy for systemic improvements in the diamond pipeline. Her intelligent and pragmatic approach balanced commercial realities with the imperative for sustainable and effective policy solutions. She is a genuine thought- leader, determined to create positive and lasting change. Vivien has always demonstrated a rare combination of business acumen, professionalism and unshakeable integrity” Andrew Bone, former Executive Director of the Responsible Jewellery Council, former Global Head of Government and Industry Relations for De Beers and former Vice President of the World Diamond Council).

I had the great fortune of meeting and working with Vivien Johnston when the global NGO I was a director of wanted to better understand the social and environmental impact of artisanal and small scale mining in areas of vital biodiversity importance. Vivien’s expertise, commitment to improvement, and wide network of industry contacts proved invaluable to us in elaborating new strategies which were measurably more effective than those of the past. Her vision, clear thinking, and pragmatic approach were instrumental in bridging the gap between the various stakeholders – corporate, NGO, governmental and indigenous peoples. She is a strong and talented agent for change, and an invaluable member to any team. I was delighted to work with her”. Patrick Laine, former Director for Corporate Partnerships, WWF

“FIDA is an educational platform offering young people aged 14-18 a range of courses and projects that challenge them to design creative solutions to real-world problems rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  Vivien has provided us with excellent educational materials for a project focused on gender equality (UN SDG 5).  She has drawn upon her expertise to contribute valuable ideas to our project development, and has delivered copy and images for a case study that tells a compelling story of social justice and opportunities for women in the context of emerald mining.  This not only addresses our core theme of gender equality but will also raise our students’ awareness of the issue of ethical sourcing of scarce resources, and empower them to make responsible choices as consumers. Vivien has been a pleasure to work with, engaging with our themes and target audience, and delivering high-quality materials to inform and inspire our students”.Jenny Shillady, FIDA

With incredible vision, (and having already established her name as the UK’s first ethical jewellery brand with ‘Fifi Bijoux’)Vivien spearheaded the drive at Gem-A (Gemmological Association of Great Britain) to introduce the concepts of ethical sourcing; social and environmental responsibility; and transparency to the gemstone industry. The initiatives were well ahead of their time and by 2015 Gem-A was the example for others. By 2018, Vivien had moved into consultancy work and commissioned me to carry out a field trip as part of an ambitious supply chain audit for a small start-up. Her outstanding understanding of the challenges and her organisation and attention to detail ensured that we exceeded the brief. We secured an opportunity for a region to showcase their resources, under-represented women secured training, employment and financial independence and a simple mine-to-lapidary-to-jeweller chain was secured under most challenging conditions. Charles Evans, Founder, Remarkable Rocks

Vivien is the original ethical jewellery pioneer” Rebecca van Rooijin,  Benchpeg Magazine

Her knowledge is second to none and is sought across the globe”  Lianne Walker, MD, Fresh Perspective Media Ltd
